IFAC Connect Africa Kicks Off in Nairobi, Driving Sustainable Change

Date

Afica is a continent brimming with potential, and its accountancy profession is stepping up to drive meaningful progress. This week in Nairobi, IFAC Connect™ Africa 2025 convenes leaders from government, business, regulatory bodies, and professional accountancy organizations to explore practical solutions for sustainable development. The event, organized by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in collaboration with the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), marks the second edition of the IFAC Connect series, which aims to adapt global standards to local needs.

As African economies and institutions grow, the region faces both remarkable opportunities and significant challenges. Addressing these demands requires close collaboration between public and private sectors. IFAC Connect Africa 2025 provides a space for leaders to transform ideas into action, enhance confidence in institutions, strengthen professional accountancy networks, and ensure that Africa meets the expectations of investors, markets, and citizens.

The accountancy profession is central to Africa’s transformation. Its role spans improving governance, advancing sustainable practices, developing skilled talent, promoting regional cooperation, and combating financial crime. Over two days, participants will examine how international standards and shared priorities can be applied in locally relevant ways across both public and private sectors.

Lee White, IFAC Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of regional leadership:

“Accountants in Africa are driving economic resilience and growth. Working with our members and partners, we are applying global standards in ways that reflect local realities and serve the public interest. Collaborating with talented professionals across the continent, we will continue to strengthen and expand our trusted profession. We are Better Together.”

Prem Govender, PAFA Vice President, noted:

“The accountancy profession is taking a proactive role in shaping Africa’s future. Our work with IFAC and ICPAK reflects a shared vision of a profession that is inclusive, forward-looking, and essential for sustainable development across the continent.”

IFAC’s partnership with PAFA has been a cornerstone of its work in Africa, reflecting a mutual commitment to build professional capacity, support economic transformation, and meet international expectations. From helping establish PAFA to collaborating on strategic initiatives across the continent, IFAC has consistently worked to elevate Africa’s presence in the global accountancy community. By aligning regional priorities with international standards and fostering clear, trusted messaging, the two organizations ensure that the profession can respond effectively to Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities. IFAC Connect Africa 2025 continues this collaborative effort, translating global insights into solutions designed for the African context.
