The IFRS Foundation has opened nominations for three Trustee positions, with appointments set to take effect from 1 January 2027 as the organisation continues to strengthen its global governance.
The recruitment process will fill two Trustee positions representing the Americas and one at-large role, which is open to candidates from any region. The appointments come as the Foundation continues to oversee the development of internationally recognised accounting and sustainability disclosure standards.
Established in 2001, the IFRS Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organisation responsible for developing global standards for corporate reporting. Its standard-setting work is carried out through the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), which issues IFRS Accounting Standards, and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), which develops IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards.
The Foundation’s 22 Trustees provide strategic oversight of the organisation and are accountable to a Monitoring Board of capital market authorities. In addition to setting the Foundation’s overall direction, Trustees are responsible for maintaining its Constitution and Due Process Handbook, overseeing funding arrangements, and appointing members to the IASB, ISSB, IFRS Interpretations Committee and other advisory bodies. Trustees also serve as company directors under the UK Overseas Companies Regulations 2009.
The Foundation is seeking senior leaders from a broad range of professional backgrounds who have a strong interest in corporate reporting and a sound understanding of finance. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to serving the public interest and supporting the Foundation’s mission to deliver high-quality, globally accepted reporting standards.
Although applications are welcomed from a wide range of sectors, the Foundation said candidates with an investor background are particularly encouraged to apply.
The role requires a significant time commitment, including attendance at a minimum of three three-day Trustee meetings each year, held in different locations around the world. Trustees are also expected to participate in committee work and attend additional meetings via video conference when required.
Successful candidates will play an active role in engaging with stakeholders across their respective regions, while contributing to discussions on the adoption and implementation of global accounting and sustainability disclosure standards. The Foundation said Trustees should also be aware of emerging issues affecting corporate reporting, including advances in technology and evolving investor expectations.
Employees of organisations represented on the Monitoring Board are not eligible for appointment.
Trustee appointments are for an initial three-year term and may be renewed once, allowing members to serve for up to six years.
